Josefina Urzaiz
Meet Josefina Urzaiz.
Urzaiz is a DC based entrepreneur who started her hammock business as a way to stay connected with her Mexican heritage while helping people along the way. Her efforts have grown since launching in 2010, even landing Hammock Boutique a shout out from Nate Berkus! For those of you wondering, he picked the Thick Cord Hammock. Before going full time this past January with Hammock Boutique, Urzaiz studied Business and spent time abroad before moving to the US to attend Georgetown for her Masters. She then worked in New York City as an investment banker for five years. Luckily for us, Josefina had time to chat with FamousDC about the good work she’s doing, what got her started and where she’s going.
Have Some Pride
It’s DC Pride Weekend so break out the beads and get ready to dance. Plus on top of that we’ve got a run down that will make you proud to live in this city so be prepared to have some fun over the next three days.
Best DC Happy Hour
We want your submission for the best DC Happy Hour – essentially a competitive sport in this town. [gravityform id=”5″ name=”Best DC Happy Hour” title=”false” description=”false”] Entries close this Friday so get ’em in before 5 o’clock.
Elliot Spaisman
Meet Elliot Spaisman.
Elliot and his fellow co-owner, Jeff Halpern, are the pair behind Astro Doughnuts, the new Metro Center eatery that has become popular for its gourmet doughnuts and fried chicken – both of which sell out daily. Elliot and Jeff are native Washingtonians, and they focused on the busy red line metro stop because of the heavy foot traffic. FamousDC had the opportunity to chat with Elliot to learn more about Astro’s tasty creations and why the Washington Post has it ranked at the top of its doughnut competition.
Heat Waves
This weekend it’s supposed to feel like DC so we can all get hot and complain about it. With that said let’s get you one step closer to another amazing weekend in our nation’s capital.

Edelman Gets A Front Row Seat
Last night, Edelman hosted a book signing for “Front Row Seat,” a photography book by Eric Draper, the Bush Administration’s White House Photographer, and trust us the crowd that turned out was worth getting there early and grabbing a front row seat for. With many Bush Administration favorites popping in to support Draper’s work, which highlights the administration and some of it’s most memorable moments, the evening ended up being a fun get together of DC politicos, journalists, communication pros and many more. Check out a couple photos below of George W. Bush for a sneak peak and be sure to snag your own copy. Trust us, it’ll impress your mom next time she’s visiting and sees it on the coffee table.

Happy Hours! And so much more.
Ball on the Mall
This year we had a great time playing media sponsor to Ball on the Mall. Put on by the Trust for the National Mall (made famous by John Stewart’s Rally), each year brings out DC’s finest – from District celebs to A-list politicos; from star reporters to PR pros; artists to socialites. Ball on the Mall has a knack for throwing a great party that brings everyone together as we all have one thing in common: this city and the amazing things living in the Nation’s capital gives us. Also, not only is it a good cause, but it’s one of the most unique locations. Time and time again folks make the rounds to their usual stops, but rarely (outside of hooka night in college) to people dance on the National Mall. It’s like partying on the quad, but for adults.
All fun aside, we were happy to partner with the Trust for the National Mall and hope to see it happen with as much style next year. See you then.
What do Tucker Foote, RG3 and Wolf Blitzer have in common?
They all made it on to this year’s WashingtonLIFE Power 100. They also (almost) all read FamousDC. Coincidence? We think not. A few who made the list: Tucker Foote, MasterCard Bret Baier, Fox News Wolf Blitzer, CNN John Breaux / Trent Lott Anita Dunn RG3 Ed Gillespie Jack Gerard Jose …
Go for the Gold
Gold Cup that is. But if you’re not feeling the printed sundress and mandatory ray-bans, no worries. You can slip into something classy instead for Ball on the Mall that night or just spend the entire weekend sipping margaritas because it’s Cinco de Mayo. Whatever floats your boat, we’ve got a little bit of everything for you this weekend. Shake it, DC.
