Hill Country was rockin’ Saturday night with John Murray & Doug Davenport’s All Hallows Eve, an underground concert featuring Godsmack’s Sully Erna and his new band. Only the Monster Mash was missing from Erna’s amazing 90 minute set in front of more than 200 folks. In addition to the music, the evening’s open bar, spooky decor and Capitol Hill’s finest dressed in costume made the night a blast. Here’s to next year. Meet Shira Toeplitz. Roll Call reporter Shira Toeplitz has been burning some rubber while covering some of the hotly contested Rust Belt races happening this election cycle. A seasoned election reporter, Toeplitz worked at POLITICO and National Journal before her tenure at Roll Call covering the redistricting and campaign trail. The second weekend of my favorite month is HERE which means we’re that much closer to my birthday and Halloween. Shameless plug, I know, but that aside, this week also offers the Vice Presidential debate and several fun parties, concerts and more. Get to it DC!

Fellow Americans, it has been four years since our last election. In those four years our country has experienced great highs; the death of the Osama bin Laden, the premiere of Glee, the rollout of the new Congress.gov and the Nats making it into playoffs. But we have also experienced the lowest of lows; the Salahi divorce, NFL replacement officials, the closing of the Hawk and Dove, Cap Lounge burning down [again] and Metro’s continued single tracking. As November approaches, we’re often reminded that nothing is more vital to the future of our country than who we elect into office. So while the campaign rhetoric heats up these next few weeks, ask yourself: Are politicians really the best suited to straighten out our country? Or can we do better? What if instead of electing politicians, we allowed the Fourth Estate to run the country? The people who know more about the political process than those actually running for office.
