This day in history is particularly special because well, it only occurs every four years. On this leap day in 1940, Southern romance Gone With The Wind took home eight Oscar awards, one of which went to Hattie McDaniel for her portrayal of “Mammie”. She won the award for Best Supporting Actress making her the first African American actress or actor to ever win an Oscar.
