Famous 5: Independence Day

Ah, Independence Day – that 4th day of July when our nation commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence with fireworks, parades, barbeques, music, and family reunions. DC is THE place to be on the 4th and although you can hit the tried “A Capital Fourth” on the National Mall, why not spice it up a bit with these parties over the holiday weekend?

National Freedomfest – a two-day music extravaganza at the recently completed Yards Park on DC’s riverfront will feature 40+ bands and DJs on 5 stages, cocktails and a fireworks countdown. Several ticket options starting at $20.

Red, White and Boom – $65+ ticket will get you access to what promoters are calling the largest rooftop party in DC, plus 5 ½ hour open bar and music from 4 bands and 2 DJs.

Boom with a View – celebrate the 4th with an amazing view of the fireworks at the W Hotel’s POV Roof Terrance. Party includes hors d’oeuvres, premium bar from 6-9 p.m. and New York City-based DJ Sky Nellor spinning tunes until 2 a.m.

Uncle Sam Jam – head to the National Harbor on July 2nd from 2-10 p.m. to enjoy this patriotic party south of DC. Tickets start at $15 and there will be plenty of booze, food and two party areas on the waterfront piers.

Party on the Potomac – don your red, white and blue on July 2nd at the Bullpen for a 7-hour open bar and 33 local bands. Tickets are $60 for ladies and $75 for gents.

Of course, if you’d prefer a traditional historic day in the D of C, check out my 4th list from last year. Or, do what I did and head to Cantina Marina for a chill day on the SW waterfront and a great view of the Washington Monument!

Enjoy and happy 4th!!
