The first weekend of February brings us lots of treats – bands, fun parties, new restaurants, Valentines (we’ll get to that later) AND the Super Bowl! Giants and Patriots who? I’m stoked to see Madge perform! While almost every bar in DC will have some form of Super Bowl viewing party, I’ve put together standouts you can’t miss. And, as always, a Thursday-Monday lineup for your partying pleasure. Enjoy!

Thursday

The Hot at Nights with Nicolay – NC represent! My friend Chris Boerner will be bringing his Raleigh-based to Bohemian Caverns with Wilmington-based performer Nicolay, a Dutch artist who earned a Grammy for his work in the electronic soul group Foreign Exchange, for two sets of experimental jazz and funk. This is going to be one hot show so don’t miss it! Bonus: I will be there.

Phillips After 5 – I always seem to miss this first Thursday of the month event at the Phillips Collection but only hear good things. The Phillips is home to the Rothko Room which was created by artist Mark Rothko and museum founder Duncan Phillips. This month’s “After 5” will be a joint collaboration with Arena Stage who’s currently presenting a production about Rothko called “Red.” There will be acting classes and improve games, jazz by the Marshall Keys Quartet, gallery talks and a cash bar.

Friday

Cryfest – I always giggle a little when I see the name of the Black Cat’s popular party that calls itself the “largest Cure/Smiths dance party in the US.” If this music fits your mood – I know it does mine! – head down to the 14th Street venue and get your dance on.

Saturday

Gregory Porter – the Kennedy Center Jazz Club presents this exciting Grammy-nominated baritone jazz artist for $16.

U Street Music Hall – defining a new sound for the Los Angeles electronic music scene, CLASSIXX, with their nu disco sound, has caught the ears of music aficionados, fans and artists alike. Catch them with BIT FUNK and U Street Music Hall’s Brian Billion for $10 at 10pm.

4th Annual Fashion Takes Flight – join Luke’s Wings at Nationals Park for a night of fashion and fundraising while enjoying cocktails, gourmet hors d’eourves and multiple premium bars sponsored by Peroni and Van Gogh Vodka. Models and military service men and women ‘take flight’ in a high-energy runway exhibition highlighting cutting edge fashion.

*Super Bowl* Sunday

We have all the picks you need to enjoy Super Bowl XLVI! Enjoy and go Madonna!

Monday

Black & Orange – stop by this U-Street area burger eatery, which was formerly known as Rogue States, for delectable, gourmet burgers with fun names like No Burger No Cry. Can you tell I’m a Bob Marley fan?

Theophilus London – I love this Brooklyn-raised rhymer who uses everything from dupstep to indie pop to dance music in his songs. Check him out for $20 at the 9:30 Club. Bonus: This would be the perfect show after a Black & Orange burger!
