Happy Thanksgiving 2011! If you’re hanging around the DofC this holiday weekend, here’s some ideas for weekend fun to keep you far from Turkey Day boredom.

Thursday

Black Squirrel – although notable venues like Hill Country, ChurchKey, the Passenger and Jack Rose will be closed, this hot spot will be open and offering a full Thanksgiving buffet and pumpkin ales on draft.

Nellie’s Sports Bar – opening at 11am, don’t walk but run to this U Street gem for all your pre-holiday gaming needs. Bonus: free pie!

U Street Music Hall – Moombahton Massive IX is the party and it features the hottest moombahton track spun by Nadastrom, Sabo and Jen Lasher.

Black Cat – garage-rockers King Louie’s Missing Monuments perform on the back stage.

Friday

Black Friday – be bold and go to your fave shops at any of the DC area malls/boutiques for the best in holiday savings. Or, be lazy and do your shopping from the couch online.

Outdoor Fun – if you’re not too full from all the Turkey Day trimmings, head to Great Falls for some hiking or the National Mall for monument strolling. There’s nothing better than walking off pie so you can have more!

Rock and Roll Hotel – if you want to dance off your turkey and dressing, head here for the free “Becky” party where DJs Stereo Faith and Trevor Martin spin all your Michael Jackson and other 80s-current hits.

Saturday

U.S. Botanic Gardens – featuring its annual holiday-themed exhibition, “Season’s Greenings”, the gardens will feature a Christmas tree, workin model train and plant-based replicas of Washington landmarks. Free and ongoing from November 24-January 2.

Black Cat – the Mousetrap dance party that was a fave for 11 years will be revived this weekend. Throw on your dancing shoes and enjoy the best of Britpop and indie dance music.

Sunday

Tabard Inn – if you have never been to this famous brunch spot in DC that boasts yummy food and an inviting environment, now’s your chance. Book reservations early or enjoy a warm cocktail at the bar while waiting for a table.
