FUNDRAISER AT CAPITOL HILL CLUB TO BENEFIT MISS DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA SCHOLARSHIP ORGANIZATION

Washington DC – The prestigious Capitol Hill Club is the place to be on Tuesday night as the Club holds a fundraiser to benefit the Miss District of Columbia Scholarship Organization. Organized by Miss DC Scholarship supporter and Board Member Lisa Spies, the event will highlight a visit to our nation’s capitol by Miss American 2011, Teresa Scanlan, along with a group of Miss America contestants that include Miss DC Stephanie Williams, and ten of the Top Twelve contestants in January’s Miss America competition.

The fundraiser will take place on Tuesday, March 29th, at 6:00 p.m. at the Capitol Hill Club, 300 First Street SE, 20003, and will also feature as Mistress of Ceremonies DC television personality and Miss DC 1997, Sonya Gavankar.

The Miss DC Scholarship Organization is the organizing body of the Miss DC Pageant, the preliminary competition to the national Miss America pageant. The Organization is dedicated to emphasizing education, talent, and the performing arts, and helps the reigning Miss DC support her platform over the course of her year as Miss DC. This year’s Miss DC, Stephanie Williams, is in her third year studying medicine at The George Washington University School of Medicine, and has dedicated her platform to disease prevention and early treatment to revolutionize the approach towards healthcare in the United States.

This year, the Miss DC Scholarship Organization has also organized a trip to the nation’s capitol for Teresa and a group of Miss America contestants that features a visit to the National Cherry Blossom Festival, a reception at the Embassy of Croatia – a longtime supporter of Miss DC – and the opportunity to act in support of their platform while in the District and meet with members of Congress. This week will prove to be an excellent opportunity for raising awareness about the critical good works the Miss America contestants carry out, and how the nation’s capitol is the premier arena for affecting change on a grand scale.
