Four years ago, the combination of a depressed GOP and a revved-up Democratic Party engrossed in Obamamania made for a number of disappointing presidential launches. Other than former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney’s mid-February speech at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan, just three days after then-Sen. Barack Obama’s heavily attended debut at the Old State Capitol building in Springfield, Illinois, the other top 2008 presidential contenders may have misfired.
