Georgetown’s fading glimmer

“Marginalized socially in the Bush years, and unlikely to recover its status in the administration that will follow, what has historically been Washington’s most rarefied and influential neighborhood is now confronted with a new and awkward question: Does Georgetown matter?

“The answer is: not nearly as much as it used to, as many of its own residents ruefully acknowledge. The people who for decades reigned as the capital’s cultural tastemakers are either deceased or getting quite old. A younger generation in Georgetown does not walk with anywhere near the same wide swath.”
