Whether you’re looking to get in on all of the holiday festivities, or you’re looking for any excuse to get away from your in-laws for a bit, we’ve got you covered on where to go to make the most of your holiday experience in DC.

 

1. National Christmas Tree

A Christmas tree so great, it has its own twitter account.  Located in the northeast quadrant of The Ellipse near the White House, this tree is sure to put you in the holiday spirit.

2. Washington Harbour Ice Rink in Georgetown

Nothing says winter like going ice skating, but only you get the pleasure of doing so with the scenic view of the Potomac River in front of you – assuming you’re not face down with your skates behind you.

3. CoCo Sala

After you’re done ice skating, warm up with some hot coco at CoCo Sala. You get the choice of your chocolate being frozen or hot as well as dark chocolate, milk chocolate, white chocolate, peanut butter and chocolate, salted caramel and chocolate, or the seasonal pumpkin spice hot chocolate. It might be worth asking for all their flavors…at once.

4. ZooLights

Along with an amazing christmas lights display, ZooLights also includes live performances, tasty winter treats, and tons of holiday shopping – just check the schedule so you don’t miss out!

5. Downtown Holiday Market

Because it wouldn’t be the holidays in America without tons of shopping, head to the Downtown Holiday Market the market features more than 150 regional artisans, crafters and boutique businesses of ethnically produced goods.

6. White House

When you start to become irritated with your own family, visit the first family instead! The White House is decorated beautifully for the holidays, so take a tour and spend some time with Barack, Michelle, Malia, Sasha, Sunny and Bo.

7. The Nutcracker

Stop by for a showing of The Nutcracker at the Warner Theatre.

8. Ford’s Theatre

If ballet isn’t your thing, head on over to the Ford’s Theatre to see A Christmas Carol.

 

9. Go Caroling

A great way to spread the holiday cheer, get some glares from passersby and make a little extra cash if you’re lucky. Nothing would spread more cheer or fear through the streets of DC than having a mob of people singing Christmas songs.
