It was nearly a year ago that Port City Brewing Company won “Small Brewery of the Year” at the Great American Beer Festival in Denver. Today, we wonder how much longer they’ll qualify as “small”.

Founded in 2011, the Alexandria based company is on track to produce 17,000 barrels of beer this year and has distributed its products from New York down to to North Carolina. Things are about to change for the better – it’s seeing an expansion that will more than double its production, which is good news for lovers of great craft beer.

We caught up with Port City founder, Bill Butcher, at his place of “business”, a term used loosely for a place that feels more like a home.
