By Politiquette’s Marissa Mitrovich: Politiquette is a place to be inspired by the art of fashion. Readers gain an understanding of the politics of why to wear–and the etiquette of when to wear–specific styles. Marissa Mitrovich founded Politiquette with the goal of bringing further substance to the dialogue surrounding style in DC.

DC you have style and we’re making you famous for it!

Anna Meyer is normally making her subjects look stylish from behind the camera, but she’s quite a stylish subject herself. Anna has an artsy, bohemian style that is sure to stand out in the conservatively inspired streets of DC. I love that she embraces bright colors and is on top of the velvet trend!

DC you can wear velvet year-round now!

Werk!  Both of these accomplished professionals turned it out for a very special dinner event to celebrate the Elle Women in Washington Power List. I love that they both look impeccable, but their style couldn’t be more different. Penny Lee has on a very flattering, classic dress that goes easily from day to night. She makes the look her own by choosing a beautiful and bold shade of purple. Laurie Knight keeps most of her look simple in all black, but makes a serious statement and shows that DC can take fashion risks by wearing a rainbow colored fur vest with delicate turquoise earrings to accent the turquoise from the vest.  These women both succeeded with their style!

Eun Yang is one of the most polished on-camera reporters in DC. What I love about her all black jumpsuit is that she lets one piece stand out. She picked yellow – DC’s favorite color this year – and shows that incorporating trends can be done tastefully. Her yellow “it” bag is from one of my favorite DC stores – Zadig & Voltaire at City Center!

(Side note: remember when FLOTUS arrived at the SOTU in the same color?)

Drybar Penn Quarter DC, 03.12.2016

Speaking of DC’s favorite color, it is also the same color of the Drybar blow dryer mascot, “Buttercup.” The Drybar in Penn Quarter is where Ardree Merriweather spends his days styling the tresses of DC’s loveliest ladies. What I love about his look is that he makes his work “uniform” edgy by incorporating a fun graphic tee, ear bling (look close), a tight Washington Nats topper and confidence that would make wearing a paper bag seem right. All of his accessories are understated so the signature Drybar yellow can prevail.

Dr. Steven R. DiSalvo is president of one of the nation’s top tier liberal arts colleges, Saint Anselm.  He was a very good sport when I stopped him in between terminals at DCA to request a photo for the Famously Fashionable column. While this look isn’t innovative, it’s iconic DC and Dr. DiSalvo mastered it.  The things that have taken his look above and beyond are the details.  His shirt and suit are crisp and pressed, his shoes are polished, and it was St Patrick’s day when we met, so he finished his look with a bright pop of color wearing a striped green tie. Take note students!

If you aren’t familiar with this college, you should be.  St. Anselm is located in Manchester, New Hampshire and has played a great role in politics by hosting former and existing Presidents to make policy speeches and presidential debates.
