FamousDC had the inside scoop at Richard Sandoval Restaurants and Washington Life Magazine’s VIP grand opening of El Centro D.F. in Georgetown.

Upon first walking into El Centro, you may remember it once served as the beloved Georgetown institution, Third Edition — or you very well may not — because we all know what types of nights this spot once produced. One dead giveaway to be on the lookout for from the nostalgic Georgetown bar includes a circled “3” on the second floor. Back to the decor inside, think “dark dungeon-esque” — lights are dim, dark wood panels abundant, music at the right volume, and there are certainly enough chips and salsa. (Sidenote: It’s too easy to fill up on these babies). Outside, presents an upper level deck, leading down to a  secluded bottom level full bar and high top tables, think “Puerto Rican beach bar.”  The string of lights hanging high above made the scene even a little romantic compliment that sunset we all like to Instagram. The Georgetown space can seat you and 157 of your closest friends inside, PLUS 55 more on its secluded outdoor patio.

The new El Centro in Georgetown produces whatever you may be looking for. The rooftop bar is perfect for a casual drink or to get the night started, and the most importantly, the basement tequileria offers drinks and dancing once you’re ready to party (for the late night crew). This spot offers reliable mexican food with an innovative twist. And unlike it’s 14th Street sister, it has an expanded menu, including fajitas, Mexican braised meats known as cazuelas and four new kinds of guacamole. Tequila snob? Don’t worry the Georgetown location has over 260 kinds of tequila and mescal, so you can change it up each drink. HINT – every Wednesday from now until November 13 you can enjoy your #HUMPDAY with free tequila and mezcal from 5-7 p.m.

And you never know you will meet sharing soap with in the co-ed bathroom, (h/t Ed Henry).

Now back to the PARTY — Washington Life produced just what we wanted after a long day at work — free flowing appetizers, delicious tequila-based drinks, a very attentive staff, and of course, Washington’s most elite. Washington Life’s Associate Publisher John Arundel could not have been any more welcoming. We damn sure look forward to being back — and possibly being WL’s newest cover models.

Famously Spotted: Ed Henry, Congressman Edward Royce, John H Arudel, Alison McLaughlin, Michelle Macaluso, Carissa Maguire, Lauren Zelt, Nikki Schwab, Christopher Gindlesperger, Adam Shapiro and not but definitely not least — these two.
