While I’m wasting away at the beach in my beloved Tar Heel State, those of you in DC cannot let me down by being lazy this weekend. Post-4th fun abounds and I have a great lineup for you. Get to it!!

Friday

Jazz in the Garden – take a blanket and some nibbles and head to the National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden to see Afro-Bop Alliance perform. Sangria is usually sold and attendance is free.

The Brixton – it’s been a fun week so keep the fun going with Friday night rooftop revelry! This insanely cool, three-level British-style pub from the team behind Marvin and BlackByrd Warehouse (aka, the ESL guys if you are living under a rock), boasts a formal first-floor dining room, done up in brick and plush curtains, a second-floor “lodge” with two fireplaces and antler chandeliers, and of course, the giant roof deck that provides amazing views of our fabulous city. Check it out.

The Willies – fronted by Jen Jones, who sang in New York nouveau-swing act the Camaros back in the ’90s, this Nashville band will be rocking it out at Hill Country BBQ. Bonus: no cover charge.

Current Lounge – want to go dancing? Don your best mini or slacks and head to this sushi restaurant/VIP club for an open bar from 10-11pm. Be sure to check out Rosebar while there should you need an outdoor break from all the party madness.

Saturday

Set the Controls: Recreating the Music of Pink Floyd – I am so sad to miss this being a massive Pink Floyd fan! Consisting of six musicians who have been inspired by their music, this group will be reproducing the deeply layered instrumental and vocal elements within the works of Pink Floyd. Show starts at 8:30pm. $22.50.

Opera Ultra Lounge – this uber-sexy club will be hosting a birthday celebration for their business partner Walid Zeytoun, which promises to be a huge time with a special Burleque theme. For free entry, hit up the guest list on the club’s website.

Sunday

Brunch – in the mood for an unlimited cocktail/buffet brunch? Take all your friends to the Beacon Bar & Grill and spend a few hours getting your grub on. I scream FUN.

Adult Swim Pool Party  – cool off at the Capitol Skyline Hotel pool from 12-6pm. Ladies – if you think your bod is hot, be sure to enter the bikini contest for $500. Gents – I think this means you should be there. Did you hear me? Bikinis.

Furthur – fan of the Grateful Dead? I am, and will be very sad to miss former GD members, Bob Weir and Phil Lesh perform (in addition to my buddy Joey Russo on drums) at Merriweather – a great venue for the band. Be sure to hit Shakedown (ie, the parking lot) for concert pre-gaming.

Zappa Plays Zappa – are you a Frank Zappa fan? If so, head to the Birchmere to check out this American tribute act led by Dweezil Zappa, the eldest son of the late American composer and musician Frank Zappa, devoted to performing the music of Frank Zappa. 7:30pm.
