Yay weekend! It may have been a scorcher this week (100 degrees, DC, really?!) but we will see a cool down (ha, to 90!) by Saturday so there is no excuse to not get out there and enjoy yourself – or at least find a place to beat the heat. No matter what your pleasure, I’ve got you covered. Happy weekend Famous readers!

Friday

30 Lost Photos of Brigitte Bardot – being a fan of this gorgeous French icon, I can’t wait to drop by the Hotel Sofitel and check out this photography exhibit while sipping a French martini. You should be excited too. Take your gal before dinner or dancing. Exhibit lasts until September 15.

Memphis 59 – I recently caught this group at the Hamilton as an opener for one of my new fave bands, Uncle Lucius, and was impressed! They will be performing at Yards Park as part of the Friday evening concert series from 6:30-8:30pm. Take your besties or love and enjoy a nighttime walk along the Potomac, while enjoying food and drinks from Red Apron Butchery, Buzz Bakery and ChurchKey.  Free and open to the public.

Estadio – it’s hot out, you’re hungry and more importantly on a Friday night, parched. What to do? Hit up this super awesome 14th St NW restaurant for a slushito – an orange and garam masala-spiced vodka incarnation with cointreau and cava, or perhaps the option of cherry with tequila, a hint of shishito pepper and lime. YUM.

Saturday

Kogod Courtyard – beat the heat with a visit to the Kogod Courtyard at the National Portrait Gallery and American Art Museum. You can check out some art and then relax under the glass roof while enjoying a libation from the museum’s café. #score.

National Capital Barbeque Battle – take the family and head to downtown DC for this annual battle among barbeque know-it-alls. Hey, a day with Q and beer is always a winner. And, if you miss it Saturday (11am-10pm), no fear – it will be back on Sunday (11am-7:30pm).

Crawfish Boil – given my serious withdrawals for all things New Orleans, I couldn’t miss out on including Pearl Dive Oyster Palace’s crawfish boil with endless pots of crawfish, sides and Abita beer, all served family-style for $60. Make a rezzie quick for either the noon or 2:30pm seating. This event will surely sell out!

Mississippi on the Mall – I love me some Mississippi folk so this event by the Mississippi State Society sounds like the perfect way to spend a day on the National Mall (3-7pm on the Henry Bacon Ball Fields at 23rd and Constitution Ave). The annual party ($25 for Society members; $45 for non-Society members) includes a catfish dinner, sweet tea and the Mississippi Cadillac Blues Band, and an after-party will be held at the Mason Inn at 8pm with DJs and drink specials.

Northern Virginia Summer Brewfest – if you’re craft beer crazy like me, you will want to head to Morven Park in Leesburg to check out the craft beer selections from local and national microbreweries. 11am-9pm on Saturday; 11am-7pm on Sunday.

Sunday

Cantina Marina – it is supposed to cool down to 88 degrees on Sunday so why not enjoy the sun hit up this super awesome and low-key tiki bar by the Potomac. Grab a marg and some fish tacos and demand they play reggae. Nice views of the Washington Monument too, for those looking for a place to spend their 4th – hint hint.

Skyline Caverns – take a drive to the closest cavern system to Washington and explore the many rooms containing stalactites, stalagmites and a 39-foot waterfall. Did I mention you may need a jacket? Sounds like the perfect break from 90-degree weather to me!

Fleetwood Mac Tribute – head to Jammin’ Java to see Anthony Fiacco, Luke Brindley, Todd Wright, and Honor by August’s Michael Pearsall pay tribute to the one of the best bands of all time. I seriously hope there is some Tusk action.

Monday

Crystal Screen – head down to Crystal City at sundown and check out the RomCom outdoor film festival that will be going on until the end of August. Monday’s movie is Hitch and attendance is free.
