Members of Congress, military members and wounded warriors came out in support of the Fisher House Foundation’s 9th annual fundraising event Monday at the Lansdowne Resort in Leesburg, VA.  The Fisher House Golf Classic, with help from its founding sponsor SAP and 50 corporate sponsors, raised more than $1 million to continue providing free or low cost lodging to veterans and military families receiving treatment at military treatment facilities and VA medical centers.

This year’s proceeds will support the construction of a new Fisher House located in Ft. Belvoir, VA.

About 300 supporters participated in the event, which included a full day of golf, a gourmet dinner, and silent and live auctions. Attendees included Rep. Joe Courtney (D-CT), General Martin E. Dempsey, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and top brass from the various military services.

“I am proud SAP can continue to help the Fisher House Foundation provide homes for veterans and their loved ones to keep them together during a difficult time,” said Mike Lennon, SAP Global Account Director- US Army and Chairman of the Fisher House Golf Classic.  “Our veterans and their families have given so much to our country and making sure they are comfortable and together during their rehabilitation is the least we can do for them.  Simply saying ‘thank you for your service’ is no longer enough.”

The Fisher House Foundation is also partnering with the British Royal Family to build a Fisher House in England.

A ribbon cutting ceremony for the Ft. Belvoir, VA, Fisher House will be held on Tuesday, May 22.
