No, it’s not another take on the infamous No Pants Subway Ride. A few too many Cinco de Mayo margaritas won’t be playing tricks on you when you see the biggest supermoon in recent history this Saturday.

Supermoon 2011 via the Smithsonian

According to the Smithsonian:

“The moon will make its largest, most stunning appearance of the year—an event known to scientists as “the perigee-syzygy of the Earth-Moon-Sun system” and to the popular skywatching public simply as the “supermoon.” As one of the most spectacular supermoons in years, the moon will appear 14 percent bigger and 30 percent brighter than when it is on the far side of its orbit.”

Put your Coronas down and get your cameras out around 11:30pm: the perigee-syzygy (if the Smithsonian says it, it’s a real thing) will take place at 11:35pm, just one minute after the full moon. Read more at the Smithsonian.
