If the saying is true, April showers should bring plenty of flowers this May, and there’s many an opportunity to enjoy Spring being in full force this weekend. Not only is it Cinco de Mayo – arguably one of my fave celebrations (who doesn’t love Margs?!), it’s also Kentucky Derby and Gold Cup weekend, and Ball on the Mall! AND, the Caps are still in the playoffs! So get out there and be festive and support our city’s hockey team.

Thursday

Hume – head to the Black Cat to see this group which is arguably one of DC’s best rock/punk acts. They’ll be performing with Dreebs and Co La.

Pizzeria Paradiso – this yummy pizza eatery will be honoring James Brown’s 79th birthday with a variety of funky beers on tap at both the Georgetown and Dupont locations. Included on the menu will be a special “funky green tomato” pizza.

Friday

Justin Jones – this 9:30 Records artist will be celebrating the release of his new album, Fading Light, at Iota.

Saturday

Cinco de Mayo – no matter where you go for this Spanish celebration (El Centro, Lauriol Plaza, Guarapo, and Tortilla Coast automatically come to mind), one thing is for sure – it’s going to be a wild afternoon. Check out the WaPo’s recommendations for further information on awesome venues.

Kentucky Derby – head to the Red Derby or Jack Rose for some mint juleps and enjoy watching the Derby with your closest friends. Pearls and seersucker required.

Gold Cup – if you haven’t secured a spot in one of the many state society tents or VIP access in Member Hill, you can still attend the festivities via one of the remaining buses that take party revelers to Great Meadows, or find a friend who will serve as your DD. Be sure to sport your best hat and seersucker.

Capitals – if you don’t have tickets to the 12:30pm playoff game against the Rangers, head to Redline, Clyde’s or any other DC-area bar to support our local team. Fun!

Ball on the Mall – Barbara Bush and Jenna Bush Hager co-host this black tie soiree on the National Mall. The event is currently sold out but if you’re nice to your bestie ritzy friends, they may throw you an extra ticket.

Sunday

Logan Tavern – run to this Logan Circle-area eatrey for their Bloody Mary bar which will be the perfect elixir to wash away your Saturday night hangover blues.
