Looking for a fancy night out on the town? Sax restaurant located at 734 Eleventh St. N.W., might be for you. If you’re looking for an evening full of cocktails, savory food, and savvy service, all cloaked in decadent decor, Sax is your place.

This sensual restaurant thrives on extravagance from the get-go, offering valet service out front, while enticing high-end clientele through the doors with their swanky red carpet. Once inside, the crimson (roll tide!) theme continues, complementing the otherwise gold decor which dictates the grandiose feel of the restaurant.

Sax has an extensive hand blended cocktail menu that allows you to seamlessly pair food and beverage. I don’t remember the exact drinks I had, i just remember that they were good…perhaps that’s a testament to the drinks’ high-alcohol content masked by tastiness.

Equally as memorable as the atmosphere and drinks, if not more so, is the small plate menu. One such plate is the Mac n Cheese featuring gruyere cheese and speck prosciutto. The Italian twist on this classic cuisine is not only palatable but also indicative of the entire menu; these moderately- to high-priced plates add an innovative touch to traditional dishes, making the extra dollars well worth it. All of the plates showcase sapid details, such as deep-fried goat cheese atop an arugula and spinach salad, and meticulous preparation, as demonstrated in the American Wagyu Beef Tartar — ranking this menu chief among others in DC.

In between enjoying drinks and small plates, you can continue your meal by feasting your eyes on the alluring burlesque numbers that unfold in a glass stage (a.k.a. classy cage) situated above the restaurant’s lower-level bar. The flexibility of the performers will keep you sufficiently distracted while you wait for your next course, and when your food does arrive you’ll most likely want to continue watching the dishes on the poles rather than the ones on the table.

Amplifying the positive nature of the restaurant, the Sax staff is also worthy of praise. Fashioning somewhat-provocative garb, the waitresses draw respect from their customers by ensuring an enjoyable and luxurious time with their diligent service, while the hostess and managers make their presence known for your benefit rather than their own.

Words, however, cannot do this restaurant justice. A posh night out at Sax is one you must experience for yourself, so get dressed up and indulge — expect to pay a little more for a lot in return.
